03.09.2012: Yusak Pakage in Papua
Yusak Pakage is being held in police detention in the Papua province, Indonesia. Since his arrest, he has been threatened with torture, denied medical treatment and unable to access a lawyer.
Yusak is known for his work for Papuan political prisoners, including raising funds for sick prisoners. He is the latest in a long line of Papuan political activists and journalists to suffer abuses at the hands of Indonesian authorities.
Amnesty continues to receive credible reports of torture and ill-treatment by police during arrest, interrogation and detention. We have serious concern for Yusak’s health and well-being.
